The Long Return Institute

The Long Return Institute / Community Commons

Care is how we make room for one another.

Simple agreements for hospitality, disagreement, privacy, and respecting work that already belongs to others.

What welcome means here

Anyone can read and participate respectfully. You do not need to be Indigenous, to live nearby, or to agree with the host. The subject may be rooted in Pit River country without making the Commons an official Tribal forum or claiming universal authority over local matters.

Moderation and disagreements

At first, one independent host maintains this space. Contributions submitted through the forms are not published automatically. The host may choose to respond privately, request clarification, publish an approved contribution, or decline to publish it.

Moderation is based on conduct, accuracy about who speaks for whom, permissions, and privacy—not whether an opinion is favorable to the Institute or to another institution. If something published is inaccurate, use the Institute's corrections route. The rules will need a fuller public review if participation grows beyond what one moderator can maintain.

Privacy and the public record

Netlify Forms processes the information you voluntarily submit. The Institute's moderator reviews submissions in the Netlify site dashboard, if the forms feature is enabled. An optional email is requested only when you want a response; do not use a form to transmit passwords, medical details, addresses of other people, sacred or restricted cultural information, or private family records.

Submissions are private by default. A selection offering to discuss publication is not permission to publish: the moderator must contact you and obtain specific permission before quoting or publishing identifiable contributions. Nothing is published automatically.

Public summaries are distinct from transcripts. Gatherings are not recorded by default, and no names, images, or direct quotations are published without agreement. The Commons is not continuously monitored and cannot provide urgent assistance.

You may use the Institute contact page to raise a privacy or correction concern. Platform retention, processing, and removal are subject to Netlify's data controls; please do not assume an unsolicited submission is automatically erased after a fixed time.

How the local directory is kept

Public-source links are distinguished from community suggestions. A source link checked on a date does not guarantee that hours, eligibility, or availability have not changed. The Commons should correct dated information and send people to the responsible organization for details.

Suggested handymen, wood sellers, and other services are not automatically endorsed or published. Do not submit another person's private contact details without consent. Proposed programs are visibly labeled as proposals, not available services.

Not an official institution. The Institute, Community Commons, and its host are independent from the Pit River Tribe and its 11 autonomous bands. Any external group or program named here retains its own authority, identity, and responsibilities.
