The Long Return Institute

The Long Return Institute / Community Commons

A place to share, care, and keep in touch.

A welcoming place for sharing, caring, conversation, and gathering, rooted in Pit River country and open to people near and far.

Start with everyday needs

Useful information near you.

Food, firewood, repair help, school events, libraries and regional gatherings—from Big Valley and Burney to Redding, Anderson, Susanville, Modoc, and southern Oregon. Choose your area and start with public sources. You do not have to join anything.

Come in. There is room.

This Commons is beginning with one host and an open invitation. You do not need a title, a project, or a polished story to participate. You can read, ask a question, pass along a public event, suggest a gathering, or simply see what is happening.

It starts with relationships connected to Pit River country, including people living away. Everyone who respects the space is welcome. Different experiences and points of view belong here.

What happens here?

Share a little

Pass along a useful public resource, a question, or an invitation you would like others to know about.

Help a little

Tell people about an opportunity or a need that is safe to share publicly. No promise that every request can be met.

Send a note →

Meet again

Find space for online conversations and, when possible, in-person gatherings where people can get to know each other.

Gatherings →

From the beginning

The first conversations are hosted here by the Institute. There are no public claims about who has joined or how many people are participating. You are welcome to respond, suggest a topic, or simply return another day.

Useful things should be easy to find again.

Instead of making everything disappear down a feed, the Commons keeps a small, organized public index of announcements, resources, and material that has been approved for publication. Private messages and gathering conversations are not automatically archived.

Independent and respectful. This space does not speak for the Pit River Tribe, its autonomous bands, families, or anyone else's work. Projects do not become Institute projects because they are mentioned here. See our care agreements.
