Some work is available today. Some is being tested. Some needs a partner or the right local or professional authority before it can go further. The point of these labels is to show the difference.
Community Information DoorwayAvailable now
The Institute maintains a stable /check-in doorway to the Pit River Weekly Check-In. The Long Return remains responsible for the reporting desk, dated releases, archive, source links, and corrections.
Community Navigation SystemBeing tested or reviewed
Family Care Institute Public v2.3.0 is the current 56-page controlled release. ICWA / kinship / guardianship work is under review. Other life routes will be developed only when the service landscape and local authority can be checked.
Education Navigation & Learning ContinuityRelease held
The controlled Education/workforce Navigator now uses a shorter, plain-language Path Sheet. It starts from prior work, training, coursework, household needs, and optional eligibility facts; shows paths to compare; names the next question and responsible office; and keeps sources and limits available without putting every disclaimer in the main reading path. Human/accessibility, exact-candidate source/Audit, host, governance, and owner-release gates remain open.
Program Research & Application BriefingsBeing tested or reviewed
Research translated into program-specific explanations, source maps, and application notes. Christopher Knorr’s authored essays and scholarship remain separate unless a specific Institute release adopts them. The Long Meanwhile is scheduled to open September 25, 2026 as the home for that authored work. Place-rooted reporting remains with The Long Return.
Community Forum & LearningBeing tested or reviewed
A small-group format for briefing, discussion, questions, feedback, and follow-up. It has not yet been run as a standing program.
The Audit operational standardAvailable now
The versioned review method for Institute-controlled public releases. Core v0.6-dev and operator package v1.5 are public, controlled, and not externally validated. Open the standard →
AI & Digital LiteracyBeing tested or reviewed
Sovereignty-first public education about infrastructure, water, land, power, practical use, and risk. Used selectively rather than presented as a mature training program. This program line does not adopt Christopher Knorr's SIFT v3 framework or The Long Return's current field sheets.
Entrepreneurship & OpportunityNeeds a partner or authority
Employment, enterprise, education, contracting, and opportunity navigation where a real gap remains after existing services are checked.
Knowledge, Registry & Archive StewardshipNeeds a partner or authority
The Institute maintains its own sources, versions, decisions, corrections, relationships, and lifecycle records. Cultural or community archive work will not proceed without the right permission, governance, and specialist partnership.
What the labels mean
A status tells you what can responsibly happen next.
Institutional test / controlled candidate
Children & Family Navigation
A practical route for Pit River ICWA, kinship care, guardianship, and new child placements: fast first-day pages, a private on-screen Path Sheet, and a printable keeper file.
Institutional-test candidate. The direct test URL is supplied to the participating institution and is not linked here during the bounded test.
Available now
The work is public and being maintained.
Being tested or reviewed
Substantive work exists, but the next step is to learn from users, reviewers, or a first small session.
Needs a partner or authority
The Institute should not proceed alone because another organization, professional, community, or decision-maker is needed.
Why not everything
Starting a program creates an obligation to maintain it.
Anything people may rely on has to stay current, be corrected when something changes, and have someone responsible for it. Starting more than the Institute can maintain would make the work less useful, not more.
A handoff can be a successful outcome. If another organization is better placed to solve the problem, connecting people there may be the right finish. The same is true of narrowing or stopping a project when the evidence says to.
Current tool boundary: SIFT v3 remains Christopher Knorr's authored framework, and the six existing field sheets remain Long Return report appendices. Technical provenance →
