# SIFT and Field Sheets — Institute Adoption Status

## Decision

The Long Return Institute does not currently maintain an operational edition of SIFT and does not maintain the six existing Long Return field sheets.

### SIFT v3

- SIFT v3 is Christopher Knorr's authored media-sorting framework, canonical content record `LR-CNT-0056`.
- Its final publication property is The Long Meanwhile.
- The current Long Return doorway and PDF remain in place until the Long Meanwhile publication is confirmed live.
- Legacy reference `LRI-MTH-002` is a catalog cross-reference, not an adoption record, release record, or claim of Institute control.
- No separate Institute source file, version, testing record, maintainer assignment, or correction history currently exists.

### Existing field sheets

- `LR-CNT-0025` through `LR-CNT-0030` remain context-bound appendices to Long Return reporting and community-meeting practice.
- Their current filenames, routes, printed safety limits, and correction context remain at The Long Return.
- The Institute does not distribute competing copies and does not represent these editions as Institute standards.

## Threshold for a future Institute edition

A future generalized or reusable Institute tool must be created as a distinct object. Before public release it must have:

1. a new Institute object ID and explicit version;
2. defined purpose, users, scope, authority, and limits;
3. a named maintainer and review cadence;
4. documented testing, accessibility review, and safety review;
5. controlled source files and a release record;
6. a public correction route and visible change history; and
7. a retirement, handoff, or supersession rule.

Until those conditions are satisfied and a formal adoption record is issued, no Institute edition exists.
