# The Long Return Institute — v0.6.6 Returning

**Prepared:** 2026-10-08
**Parent:** v0.6.5 Phase 7 Netlify ZIP; SHA-256 `faec0f83523558bc4af914375e0d494e6fc04043cee1f1e1541b604ffd94cec7`.
**State:** Prepared static-site development build — NOT DEPLOYED or community validated.

## Why this addition

A five-page public "Returning" learning and resource section. This is distinct from a repatriation program, formal consultation, land acquisition initiative, Tribal or band office, enrollment service, or a directory of projects. Its organizing principle is **non-displacement**: explain, study, and signpost without taking control or speaking for others.

## New public routes

* `/returning` — welcoming entrance and four kinds of return
* `/returning/ways` — different forms and what does not follow from them
* `/returning/authority` — Pit River constitutional context, existing Heritage Department, limits of Institute authority
* `/returning/first-steps` — private, low-risk orientation and printable questions
* `/returning/reading` — seven book references and one explicitly labeled review, plus official public sources

### Preservation

All 744 v0.6.5 archive file paths remain. Existing PDF/Word/PowerPoint files, artwork and illustration assets, protected source tables, search exclusions and tool/decision engines are preserved byte for byte. Shared navigation and version identity have received additive changes. The homepage has a Returning doorway; the About and Current Work pages have small relationship/status additions. Search is extended with only the five public Returning routes; old held-use pages are not indexed anew.

### Scholarly and official-source boundaries

Seven user-provided academic books and a two-page Kent G. Lightfoot review of M. Kat Anderson's *Tending the Wild* informed original writing. No full texts, book covers, downloaded figures, quotations, scans, or licensed illustrations have been republished in the website package. Books from 2012–2021 are not substituted for current legal sources; the NPS NAGPRA regulations webpage, Pit River Constitution, and Pit River Heritage Department webpage are linked as public primary references.

The Institute does not claim that the eleven Pit River bands share the same projects or that unlisted work is absent. The Tribe's published Heritage Department has an expressly described return-related function. No conclusion about a particular band's or family's practice is drawn from silence. Other Tribes have different governmental structures.

### Remaining gates

* Live Netlify source/version not independently identified. Preview and backup before production publication.
* Real reader, facilitator, assistive technology, printed-hardcopy and actual-host behavior are **not tested by this release record**.
* Verification of official webpages was performed for this development edition; public official sources may change. No individual cultural claims or requests were evaluated.
* Material corrections should be issued as a versioned successor, not silently patched into a frozen ZIP.
